The standard used for comparison of test results in an experiment
Real World Example
Imagine trying to decide if a new brand of coffee tastes better than your usual morning brew. To make a fair comparison, you'd need to have a cup of your regular coffee as a baseline to evaluate the new one against. In scientific experiments, this is similar to using a 'control'—it’s the standard you use to compare against the test results. Just like your usual coffee helps you judge if the new brand is an improvement, a control helps scientists determine if their experimental results are due to the changes they've made or just a coincidence.
