Real World Example

Imagine trying to inflate a balloon that has several small holes in it. Just like how the air leaks out of the balloon, making it hard to stay inflated, emphysema causes damage to the tiny air sacs in the lungs, preventing them from holding air effectively. In this analogy, the balloon represents the lungs, the holes are akin to the damaged lung tissue caused by emphysema, and the difficulty in keeping the balloon inflated mirrors the challenge of breathing when the lungs can't trap air properly.
