Imagine you're trying to find a parking spot in a crowded lot, and you come across a space that's just the right size for your car. This is similar to an addition reaction where an atom or molecule finds an open spot in an unsaturated molecule and fills it. Just as your car fits perfectly into the empty parking space, completing the row of cars, the incoming atom or molecule attaches itself to the unsaturated molecule, filling in the available bonds and creating a more stable, saturated compound.
