Dominance Hierarchy

Animal behavior where some individuals have higher social rank and more privileges

Real World Example

Imagine waiting in line at a coffee shop during the morning rush, where everyone hopes to get their caffeine fix as quickly as possible. Just like the person who gets to the front of the line first and has the privilege of ordering their drink before others, certain animals in a group hold higher social ranks, granting them priority access to resources and mates. In this analogy, the coffee line represents the social structure of an animal group, with the person at the front akin to the dominant animal whose position allows them more privileges, much like having first dibs on the best resources in their environment.
