Leo X was a pope known for his role during the early Reformation and the Renaissance. He is famous for selling indulgences, which are payments for reducing punishments for sins, to fund the construction of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. This practice angered many, including Martin Luther, and contributed to the Protestant Reformation, a major religious shift in Europe. Today, Leo X's actions remind us of the importance of questioning authority and reforming systems that seem unjust. For example, when people today campaign for changes in government or institutions, they're following a similar spirit of challenging and improving the established norms, just like reformers did in Leo X's time.
