Addiction

A physical or psychological dependence on a substance, like drugs

Real World Example

Imagine you're trying to break the habit of checking your phone every few minutes. Just as you feel a strong urge to reach for your phone despite knowing it's distracting you from tasks, addiction creates a powerful compulsion to seek out the substance, like drugs, even when it's harmful. Similar to how your brain craves the instant gratification of notifications, addiction rewires the brain to intensely desire the substance, making it difficult to resist despite the negative consequences.
