Depressant

A drug that slows the activity of the central nervous system

Real World Example

Imagine trying to carry on a conversation in a crowded, noisy room where everyone is talking at once. Just as the chaos of multiple voices can drown out your ability to focus on one conversation, a depressant drug slows down the central nervous system, making it harder for messages to be clearly sent and received in your brain. Just like how quieting the room allows you to concentrate on a single voice, depressants reduce the nervous system's activity, calming the body and mind by muting the excess "noise."
