The use of oxygen by cells to break down food, and release carbon dioxide and energy

Real World Example

Imagine trying to get the most out of a tube of toothpaste when it's almost empty. In this scenario, you have to carefully squeeze and twist the tube to extract the remaining paste, just as cells use oxygen to efficiently break down food molecules to extract energy. Just like the toothpaste tube, where the effort of squeezing releases the final bit of paste (energy), cells utilize oxygen to break down food, releasing carbon dioxide as a byproduct and energy for the body to use.
