Real World Example

Imagine trying to squeeze toothpaste out of a nearly empty tube by starting at the bottom and rolling it upwards. Just like how you apply pressure in a wave-like motion to push the last bit of toothpaste toward the opening, peristalsis involves wavelike muscular contractions that propel food through your digestive tract. In both cases, a sequential, squeezing action is used to move contents along a confined path, whether it's toothpaste in a tube or food through your intestines.
