Hypoxia

A reduced oxygen content of air or a body of water harmful to aerobic organisms

Real World Example

Imagine trying to breathe through a straw while running up a steep hill – it's difficult and exhausting because you're not getting enough air. This is similar to hypoxia in that when the oxygen content in the air or water is reduced, aerobic organisms struggle to get the oxygen they need to survive. Just as your body struggles to perform without sufficient oxygen when breathing through a straw, aquatic life and other organisms suffer in low-oxygen environments, leading to stress and potential harm.
