Real World Example

Imagine trying to pass a heavy box from one person to another in a line of people. Just like how the box must be physically handed from one person to the next, heat energy moves from one object to another through direct contact. In this analogy, the box represents the heat energy, and the people symbolize the atoms or molecules in the materials; just as the box only moves when physically passed along, heat energy is transferred when the molecules bump into each other.
