Real World Example

Imagine trying to keep a house warm during winter by only heating the rooms you're actively using. This is similar to how sapwood functions in a tree, where it transports essential fluids to the parts of the tree that are actively growing and using resources. Just as you focus energy on heating the active areas of your home, sapwood, the secondary xylem layer, efficiently directs nutrients and water to the parts of the tree that need them, while the central heartwood provides structural support, much like the sturdy walls of your home.
