The sum of neutrons and protons in an atom’s nucleus
Real World Example
Imagine you're trying to figure out the total number of items in a mixed bag of apples and oranges. This is similar to the mass number in an atom, where you're essentially counting the total number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus. Just like adding up apples and oranges gives you the total count of fruits in your bag, adding protons and neutrons gives you the mass number, which tells you the total 'weight' or composition of the atom's core.
