Solstice

The twice yearly event when the Sun reaches its greatest distance North or South of the equator

Real World Example

Imagine you're on a swing at a playground, going back and forth, reaching the highest point at either end. Just like how you reach the peak of your swing, the solstice is when the Sun reaches its furthest point north or south of the equator. In this analogy, the swing's high points represent the solstices, where the Sun 'pauses' at its extreme position before changing direction, similar to how you momentarily stop before swinging back the other way.
