Epicenter

The point directly above the focus of an earthquake, on Earth’s surface
Real World Example
Imagine you're at a party where someone spills a drink on the floor, and everyone quickly notices the spreading puddle. Just like the initial spill is the source of the spreading liquid, the focus of an earthquake is where the seismic energy starts deep beneath the Earth. The epicenter is akin to the part of the floor that first gets wet and is directly above the spill, signifying the point on the surface where the effects of the earthquake are first and most intensely felt.
